La Mamma

And everyone, they all came, from Rome and from Naples
For it looked bad for La Mamma
And from the distant Brundusium came Giorgi, the prodigal son,
Took his entire month’s wages,
Bought gifts for her.
The grandchildren remain silent,
They play a very quiet game,
They mutely weave flowers into a wreath
For they still don’t quite understand what’s happening with La Mamma

They set up the pillow for her and warm her up with kisses,
For soon she’ll go home, La Mamma.
Santa Maria in the square, we take her, the final treasure
They light many candles and sing Ave Maria.
Ave Maria
And suddenly it becomes clear to all, how nice it was with La Mamma
Hope wipes away the tears
Maybe things will go well for La Mamma

The pitcher was brought out, for it’s getting late
Because life goes on,
It also looks bad for La Mamma
And into the wine that’s poured all around into cold mugs,
Fall hot tears alongside it, and the family sits united.
Those who haven’t seen each other for years now have a reunion
They would be so glad about it,
Madonna, were things not as they were with La Mamma

A guitar softly sounds, until all sing very softly
A lullaby for La Mamma
As she once sang for them all, their whole long lives long
And all pray, has she fallen asleep?
It isn’t supposed to be forever
Ave Maria
And suddenly it becomes clear to all, how nice it was with La Mamma
Hope wipes away the tears
Maybe things will go well for La Mamma
Never, never, never leave us

Coffee Is Hot

In San José, coffee is hot
It's the kind I haven't had for a long time
The rum in Johnny's cupboard is good
In San José, coffee is hot
And my longing is real
Because I want to find the way back

Behind eucalyptus trees
You can find my first dream, which has long been over
And now I'm back again, falling in love again
I'm even telling you: 'Boy, here we are
Spending so much more time doing things
That we've never experienced before'1

In San José, coffee is hot
And Johnny's glance is gracious
His picture is hanging above my bed
The coffee in San José is hot
And it stimulates my blood
Whatever I want thereafter is so good

Behind eucalyptus trees
Yes, you can find a shade of memory there
And you're back again I'm so young
I'm even telling you: 'Boy, here we are
Spending so much more time doing things
That we've never experienced before'

In San José, coffee is hot
In San José, coffee is hot

Behind eucalyptus trees
You can find my first dream, which has long been over
And now I'm back again, falling in love again
I'm even telling you: 'Boy, here we are
Spending so much more time doing things
That we've never experienced before'

In San José, coffee is hot
In San José, coffee is hot
In San José, coffee is hot
In San José, coffee is hot

Give Me Your Hand

Give me your hand and promise me loyalty
And I'll follow you until the end of the world
But I wish for happiness without regret
That will also last for a lifetime

So give me your word and never leave again
How long have you already been separated from me?
Give me your hand and promise me loyalty
Then I'll share my life with only you

Give me your hand and promise me loyalty
And I know: I will never stay alone
Please believe me, how I look forward to
Never being lonely and sad again

So swear to me today and for all eternity
That nothing will destroy our love
Give me your hand and promise me loyalty
Because my whole heart belongs to you
